So last school year I was Secretary/Treasurer of Amnesty International at Berry. In the Spring, Rita started preparing Elissa and I to start taking over for her as she was graduating, and did graduate, in May. Thing is, Elissa is studying abroad this fall. She'll be in Glasgow so I'm immensely jealous for sure but happy for her. =) So in the spring, Rita brought the then go-to-gal, so to speak, of Amnesty for us to speak at a movie showing. I got introduced to her so it wouldn't be awkward this year when I started e-mailing her or talking with her about the goings on at Berry. She asked what year I was and I mentioned I was going to be a Senior. So, she mentioned to me that there was this program. It was a student leader thing through Amnesty and I would have to apply but she implied it wouldn't be too much work and I'd probably get it.
The SAC is short for Student Activist Corps. That's the name of the program.
Thing is, come end of the school year I still hadn't finished the application. You know how the end of school catches up with you? Then towards the end of May I find out that the woman I was introduced to got her position eliminated due to the economy and all. That made me totally nervous as I had someone new looking at my application. Mind you I never get these things but I had to try. It took longer than she told me it would for him to get back, and then we didn't have a phone interview till July! Wow. I was kind of glad though because my late, in my opinion, application still stood a chance.
Phone interview happened. It went well for the most part. I kind of panicked because he called like a half an hour late, but he told me that he had been in a meeting and apologized. Hours later, I got the email he mentioned sending. Thank you Berry e-mail! New system hasn't changed that. Anyhow, we talked for a little bit and he was really friendly. If you know me, you know I freak out over the littlest things. I'd been freaking pretty badly for like an hour before he called to when he did.
Afterward, I didn't hear from him for a while. When I did it was an e-mail from him asking how I would handle things if I got the position because he remembered me saying how involved I was around cmapus. I thought about it and sent him an e-mail back telling him that I would manage - that I make time for things that are important and I can schedule. I manage. So I get a response back from that saying he was out of town till this week. A bit of a wait, so I just wrote it off and waited.
Earlier this week, I got an e-mail, automated or generic I assume, basically telling me thank you for your e-mail while I was away and I"ll get back to you sometime this week. TODAY, I get an email sayins SAC Position - Good News. I opened it and I was shocked to find out that I got the position. He told me it would be like 4 people within the state of Georgia! And with the follow up e-mail I was shocked to have gotten it! WOW! I'm actually pretty excited!! I'm still waiting to find out all of what it will entail but I know it involves quarterly reports, organizing events, and getting in close contact with the regional office. They'll send me packets and information so I'll basically have a line into what they're working on. I'll be able to bring that to Berry!!! We go to such a small school and it's often called the bubble but it's time to broaden the bubble, not quite break it, but enlighten those within it.
I'm excited. It'll be a good opportunity for me and for Berry! ^_^ Hurrah!
